The Impact of Skin-lightening Products and Chemical Exposure

In this short documentary, we discuss the impact of colorism, the skin-lightening practices and chemical exposures. Through the voices of Beautywell and partners who have been working on this issue for many years, we explore the societal pressures and cultural narratives that drive the desire for lighter skin and biomonitoring research that has been done on communities that use these products, and its health impacts. The short documentary examines the psychological impact of colorism, shedding light on the white-spread use of skin-lightening products that influence colorism self-esteem and identity.

We also uncover the alarming health implications associated with skin-lightening products, many of which contain harmful chemicals that pose serious risks to users.

Join us as we challenge the toxic and illegal skin-lightening products and beauty standards perpetuated by society, media, and other systems, confront the stigma associated with darker skin tones, and promote acceptance and diversity in all its shades. This documentary aims to help spark conversations and inspire action towards a more inclusive understanding of beauty and the impact of these products. Take action and help #endskinlightening.
